Title: [2020] Sherco SE 300 Factory Fouling Plugs

Hello, i'm new to the forum but I'm sad that way. My name is Gilbert i have new Sherco SE 300 Factory 2020

Few days ago i bought that bike from local Dealer. I live in Poland on 300 meters asl, now we have temperatures from 25-35 C.  After first hour of ride motorcycle fouls the spark plug. I changed it on Iridium Spark Plug. But nothing changes after another 1,5 hour fouls the plug. We riding very slow enduro parts with streams and slow riding. Fouled plugs are black, and oiled. Motorcycle have stock jetting.

My local dealer is located 300 km from me and i haven't time to put bike on service. He said me to put needle one position lower. Maybe you have idea what to do with it?

Also been trying to fix very rich low rev fuelling on low hour 2015 300. Barely ran at 1/8 throttle with stock jetting, oily black plug, massive spooge and bad closed throttle pipe bang/surge. At 200-500m elevation and temps 12-25C. So far have tried:
BR7 plug and switched from Motul 800 to 710, still poor running but less spooge.
35 pilot and dropped needle one clip, slightly better but hard to dial in air screw for good response, seemed lean.
High comp S3 head insert, which beefed up the bottom end and much better pipe bang but still not right on jetting.
Various Suzi needles getting leaner from stock 'G' needle to now 'W' and back to standard 38 pilot. Very good now, pulls hard and clean from below idle to redline and rich surge/pipe bang pretty much gone. Still slight sputter at constant throttle but the next 'J' needle feels too lean. Last thing to try will be J needle and richer 40 pilot.
So the main issue for my bike appears to be the needle straight section being way too rich from standard.

As Falco1 said, your problem is probably too much fuel in the pilot and needle circuits. Experiment with pilot jets and the Suzuki needles worked great for me.

maybe try 38 pilot air screw 1.5
N8RH needle 2nd clip from top for hot weather. middle clip for cooler
165 or 168 MJ
pre-mix 50:1
make sure air cleaner is clean.

I'm sure these are two separate issues. The 2019s came with an ECU for the first time (except 2018 FE's) and Sherco has had a fouling issue from day 1 on these bikes. They recommended a BR7 spark plug and a new spark plug cap and then came out with a new map for the bikes that seems to help. At TKO I remapped about a half dozen bikes for guys that were having fouling issues. I would think that the 2020s have the 7 plug and cap and the new map too?
I'm to the point that I don't think God intended for dirt bikes to have ECUs!

Thank you for reply. Now i put needle one position down. And it need longer time to foul the plug. Today i will change pilot jet to 40.

Hi Gilbert,

I would suggest you follow Clay's suggestion first. Clay used to be the US Sherco dealer. Before playing around with needles etc, I would get the ECU software update first before. Call you dealer an ask them too. It seems also that you need to inquire about the "new spark plug cap", and finally switch/install a new spark plug BR7. In short you might have to bring your bike to the dealer.

For jetting, first step is to use what the user manual says. I follow that, and it works perfectly.
I would have hoped that Sherco learned from the 19's and fixed the map BEFORE sending them to customers

20's got the new cap, and Br7's.

I thought the new map, which surely must be installed in the 20's, was correcting the issue but I just heard from a guy that has a 19 that I remapped at TKO that it is not. I sent an email to Sherco. Hopefully have an answer tomorrow.

So here's the answer I got from Sherco when I asked for help on the bikes with the ECU fouling plugs:

Now with the new coil and new mapping there is no more problems with spark plug.

WTF! Ok so the new bikes aren't fouling plugs (no matter what Gilbert says. His may simply be due to jetting) but the 2019s are fouling plugs even with the new map. I sent him another email asking very specifically what to do with the 2019s that have the new map and are still fouling plugs. Maybe I can get a straight answer. Tomorrow.

I'm not having a plug fouling issue on my stock plug/cap/map 2019, but I'm not following the jetting chart in the manual which is complete bullshit. 1-2 steps leaner on everything and the bike runs much better.

Some bikes had the issue and some didn't have it at all. No matter what the owner did with jetting. It was really weird.
It was on start up that it would happen. If it didn't happen on start up then you were good for the whole ride. Or if it did happen and you changed the plug then it wouldn't happen all day.  :o

I did mapp update, spark plug cap, BR7, didnt use choke and put in a smaller pilot... still fouled
Recently I put the larger needle and so far havenít fouled but it hasnít been that long.

Iíd love everyone to have a definitive answer to what causes it so we know for sure how to fix.

I got no answer to my "What do we need to do to fix the 2019s" question. That's what they usually do when a part needs to be replaced and they don't want to pay for it. He said in his email that the new map and new coil had fixed the 2020s so I suspect that you will need to replace the coil too. I'd call or email RYP and ask them to push Sherco on what needs to be done to correct this issue.
If they determine that the coil needs to be replaced you'll probably have to pay for the coil yourself. Maybe RYP will sell them to you at their cost like I did with the starter upgrade. But probably not.

We have quite a few each week on two Sherco Riders and Owners  FB pages as well.
Would be good to hear a definitive fix.
Most guys who rejet correctly seem to be ok in the end.
Bring on self adjusting Fi, I say  :D

I have the same problem on my sherco 250 se 2020. Bike wont start an the plug i wet and dirty. After i change a plug it runs well but the next day it wont start again
Anybody has a solution?

Yes,
If jetting changes and changing brands of 2T oil has not helped you, talk to your dealer about fitting the 2021 GET ecu under warranty.
Problem bikes should be covered by the factory.
