2020 SEF 300 50T Rear Sprocket & Stock Chain
« on: June 05, 2020, 04:33:45 AM »
I just got a 2020 SEF 300 Factory and would like to try a larger rear sprocket, like maybe a 50 tooth instead of the stock 48. Riding the local singletrack I'm in second a lot and that feels a little too tall on the climbs whereas on my '16 Husky TE250 (13 x 50) I run in third most of the time and second is great for most of the hills. When I first started riding I rode a '06 Yamaha WR450F and with stock gearing both first and second were way too tall. Going down one on the front made second a great "first" gear and first was good for billy goating.

Can I go up two teeth and still use the stock chain?

I had to get a longer chain when I switched to 50T.

You can fit a 50t w stock chain and stock 13t.... however, you have to slam the wheel all the way forward in swing arm.... not a great choice in my mind.

I checked with my dealer and he emails Sherco. They said it would work so I'll give it a shot.

As long as there's enough slack in the chain I'm not too concerned. If it doesn't work then I'll have a sprocket on-hand for when I get a new chain.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Wow, just goes to show everyone's got their preferences.  1st gear is barely useable in my riding.  I start in second and even attack 50' vertical walls of 12" deep sand in second.  I pretty much live in 2nd gear at my local riding area.  The torque on the my 300 SEF allows to run tall gearing.  I can even run 3rd in tight wooded and sandy trails I ride...sans some snap.  I've been really happy with the stock gearing but if its not working for you its not working for you.

A stock chain is long enough for a 13 x 50 .Wheel all the way forward and turn chain adjusters around and you will have ample adjustment.
