2021 Gear Ratio changes?
« on: August 10, 2020, 01:40:09 PM »
Just curious what changed on the 250/300 2T?

I heard taller 1st gear?  Is that the only change?  What is the new ratio?

New Athena ignition for capacitive discharge instead of inductive.
Weight loss in the gearbox, shift drum, and clutch gear. 2.7 pounds total loss.
Head has the mario setup now. Little bit less compression.
First gear is lower, not taller.

Thanks guys

I read about the other changes, I just meant is the 1st gear ratio change the only change to the gearbox?

I've heard different things on the 1st gear now.  Is the ratio smaller or higher numerically now?

Actual numbers?

The only ratio change, the gears and secondary shaft were lightened.
Numerically higher, lower ratio. I haven't heard the actual number yet.

Thanks guys.  I will keep an eye out for the actual info.  I didn't see the 2021 owners manual online.

I really liked the tight spread on my 14 300 but my preference would be a slightly taller 1st

A deeper first would be better, I still prefer the wider spread of ratios that my old KDX has. Can climb walls without the clutch in first and still do close to 130kph on the open fire trails... First on my 2019 Se 250 always feels too tall for the first few minutes when I hop on it after riding the KDX
