Sherco 500 gearing
« on: August 27, 2020, 07:41:07 AM »
So I just got back from an Ohio trip and took my Sherco 500 SE-F Factory.

I love the bike, but not crazy about the stock 14/49 gearing.  Mainly in hill climbing situations with little/short runs before the climb.

I am considering 14/51 or even 14/52.

Does anyone have any input on the rear sprocket size?

On the 2 strokes, we go
13-49 from 14-49 as a start.
Maybe the 500 doesn't
Quite need the 13t front..

That is my worry. Wouldn't 13/49 be equivalent to about 14/54?

I don't want to make 1st gear next to useless.

The gearing in 500 is very weird, I went to 15/48 and I now the cruising speed is comfortable  ( around 100 km/h ) and max speed is only around 135, the KTMīs are going 150-160 after they geared also up. We never go there but good to ease on the engine on long routes on asphalt

Anyway it seems the gearbox is almost MX, which is strange for 500 enduro bike.  If you gear up more you will get another bike !

EDIT: I see you want to have lower gearing ! In my case it was opposite, I finished gears very fast and not fun to drive.  I wonder if I have some strange gearbox from factory. You can read my other post in forum on my thoughts regarding this gearing

13 49 is same as 14 53,
Just divide the numbers.

Any idea if the 500 takes the same counter sprocket as the 250/300 2T bikes?

As it turns out the stock gearing was 14/50, not 14/49.  I just ended up dropping 1 tooth on the counter shaft sprocket so I am now running 13/50.

I wish I would have checked it before switching sprockets to see what the top speed was stock.  As she sits with 13/50 the top speed is 84 mph!
