Sherco SE stock muffler design vs. FMF...spooge issue
« on: April 21, 2021, 05:09:40 AM »
I have my 21' 300 w/ stock muffler.  There is a small weep hole on the bottom and a lot of spooge oozes out of there all the way down and drips down.  I have it jetted to the exact feel of my KTM with an FMF turnbinecore arrested muffler.  I have little to no spooge coming out of that muffler. I keep them both slightly rich on the pilot, but not by much.

Is it just the fact that the inner FMF arrestor captures spooge due to its inner design and then soaks into the packing?  Is the Sherco just a straight pipe with the only hole being the weep hole for spooge to go?  Don't understand why there is so much shit coming out of the Sherco pipe.

Me Three. Wipes right off though. I think I'll just suffer through this one.

Wish someone made an affordable screen to insert as a spark arrestor. Have any leads?

One of these should work for a Spark Arrestor.

The real question is why are you spooging so much? My stock FMF has only a 1/2 inch dribble out of that weep hole. Consider an oil with a lower flash point to reduce it because it is only partly jetting and mainly that.

Sfade, what brand of premix are you using? Iíve been using Motul 710 for years due to its low flashpoint with great results: not a single drop of spooge on both my old KTM and same on my Sherco. Full synthetic & a great premix.

Motorex full.syn and never had issue.  Also ran amsoil dominator full syn no issues....in my KTM that is.  Was running 40:1 now running 50:1 and no difference.

Interesting result. If you like where you're with jetting I'd still give it a try to a lower flash point premix, nothing to loose and perhaps easier than chase your tail with jetting.

In the Sherco I'm running the the same pilot, main & needle I was running in the KTM, the only difference is the Sherco liked the needle half a step leaner. No spooge on either bike. Good luck.

I just started using motul 710
Will see if less spooge.
May go 57:1  4.5 ounces per 2 gallons
Gas.

I actually just ordered Motul 710 to try it as I'm running low on premix.  Reality is its just cosmetic, although messy.  The bike is jetted perfect.  I remember James Dean from JD Jetting said spooge is NOT an indicator of a properly or inproperly jetting bike.

I've ran Redline for years at 64:1, oil threads are like... My biggest spooger is my 79 Vespa. Today I ran a little of the Lucas Oil Fuel System Cleaner in my fuel, it says it works as a octane booster and I  didn't get any of the usual destination that I get. Whatever works, use it. Oil isn't the magic difference.

Changed my packing on my other bike.  Same carb setup and oil type use.  No real visible spooge....but the packing was saturated with oil.  It has been 50-60hrs.  Hoping the 710 burns off more to keep my packing and bike quiter for longer.
