Broke kick stand
« on: February 03, 2016, 07:44:41 AM »
Hey guys, when I bought my bike the kick stand has always been weak. I would put my kick stand out and if it was not on flat ground it would just bend out. Anyways it broke off right at the bolt, leaving a half moon, were the bolt goes through. Has anyone had this problem? What's the best way to fix/weld it?

Are you referring to the tab on the frame or the stand itself?? Frame tab is soft and there is nothing you can do about it outside grinding off and welding a stronger shape tab. I just removed mine and lean against a tree

Oops I'm complaining again.

yeah, the sidestand tab is one of the very few weak points on my SEF300.
Mine hasn't broke but it's more flexible than a 19 year old pole dancer.
Like Weantright, my sidestand is home in a box while the bike is leaned up against a tree.
The beauty of FI is that if I have to lay it over on the ground (no trees) it doesn't flood like a carb would.

I don't know what you blokes do with your sidestands but mine is as good as new, i know my KTM was a little bit loose but that was because i would stand on it sometimes to start it

+1 being that there is no kick start im not sure what you would do to it to damage the frame bracket.

My bike was leaning a bit too far over on the stand when I picked it up (new). Bracket was already bent... and even weaker after being tweaked back.

It's fixed now with a new stronger bracket welded on. Oh well.

The bike leans over too far from new, that doesn't help.
